How Are You Using Your Influence?
16059 Views

My niece and nephews chatter about these random people I’ve never heard of. The kids in my class at church always talk about them, too. And I get the same answer every time I ask, “who is that?”

“They’re a famous YouTuber.”

Here’s the deal about these influencers… no one knew who they were until, little by little, the word got out and their fame started to spread. They have something that others are drawn to, and soon, they have a huge following.

“But Jesus withdrew himself with his disciples to the sea: and a great multitude from Galilee followed him, and from Judaea, And from Jerusalem, and from Idumaea, and from beyond Jordan; and they about Tyre and Sidon, a great multitude, when they had heard what great things he did, came unto him. And he spake to his disciples, that a small ship should wait on him because of the multitude, lest they should throng him. For he had healed many; insomuch that they pressed upon him for to touch him, as many as had plagues.” (Mark 3:7-10)

Crowds were beginning to not only gather wherever Jesus went, but they were now following Him. The news of His miracles had spread far and wide and many had come to see the healings and, hopefully, to receive one as well. With this massive amount of followers, Jesus had great influence.

With great opportunity comes great responsibility. How would Jesus use His influence? Would He try to gain power? Money? Possessions?

As we continue to read in Mark, we will discover the real Jesus. The One who gave up everything so that we might be forgiven and healed. And His influence lives on today.

How are you using your influence in this world? Is it to draw others to you, or to Him? No matter what you do, where you are, who you are around, you have the opportunity to influence someone, to make an impact on their lives in some way. Choose wisely how you will use that opportunity.
