Lay-a-way.
If you couldn’t afford it at the time, you could pay it out over payments. It was especially helpful for people who didn’t have great credit.
One year, the news reported of someone coming in and paying off every lay-a-way account. As people came to pick up their items, they learned their account had been paid in full. No tricks, no strings attached, it was paid.
All of the accounts.
The generous donor didn’t ask for a list of who had debts. They didn’t ask what their stories were, who was worse off than others, how many times they had occurred debt and not paid it, who had the means to pay it off, or who would be most grateful.
He paid it all for all of them.
John 19:28-30
“After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.
29 Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth.
30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.”
It is finished.
Do you know what this means? It’s not just a phrase to say, “whew, glad that’s over” or “I’m done”.
Finished means “paid in full”.
There was no longer a need to go to the temple for sacrifices. Jesus’ sacrifice was enough for all past, current and future sins. The debt had been paid. Paid in full.
And Jesus didn’t walk around asking who deserved it. He didn’t keep a list of those who had anything to offer Him or choose people based on their positions or power. He didn’t pick and choose who could receive this payment.
He paid it all for all of them.
If He gave His life for all, shouldn’t we share this good news with ALL people?
Not just the cleaned up ones.
Not just…
The ones who have something to offer in return.
The ones who think they deserve it.
The ones who work hard at being good.
But ALL.
Every tongue, every tribe, every nation.
Tell the story of Jesus. Point them to the truth that their sins are paid for and they can receive this beautiful free gift. And then they can follow Christ’s command to learn and share it with others.
Have you received God’s beautiful gift of salvation? The debt has been paid for your sins. Have you accepted it from Jesus? Have you recognized that He is the only way?
Are you following Him? Are you learning who He is and what He has planned for your life? Are you sharing this wonderful news of being debt free with others?
It’s time.
No more excuses. Today is the day. Surrender your life to the One who gave it all for you. And tell others about this beautiful gift.

Jesus paid it all. All to Him I owe. Sin had left a crimson stain, He washed it white as snow.
