My husband and I just finished a series on Hulu called “The Musketeers.” It follows the traditional story but adds new enemies, friends, and of course, love interests.
The battle scenes might have been our favorite part. We grew to despise the bad guys and we were ready for a good sword fight.
One thing I noticed though was a lack of shields used by the Musketeers. They always had their sword, but they did not carry a traditional shield. Instead, they had a sleeve that covered their shoulder, marked with a fleur-de-lis, the emblem of the King’s Musketeers. It acted as a shield for protection and a symbol that they belonged to the King. They wore it with great honor and pride.
We belong to our King too, and He is our shield.
Genesis 15:1 says:
“After these events, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield; your reward will be very great.”
Do you need to hear that today?
God is your shield.
He is your protector.
He is your King.
It is He whom you fight for.
It is He who fights for you!
When you go into battle with the enemy, you are not alone. He is with you.
Today, as you get ready to head out to the battlefield, gird yourself with this truth: God is your shield and your reward, do all things for His glory!
