God is Bigger
200 Views

You keep pushing, but it just doesn’t fit. I’m not talking about trying on the perfect pair of shoes that are two sizes too small. I’m talking about trying to make a star shape fit into the square hole.

Remember that little toy?

No matter how hard you try, you cannot make it fit.

So why do we do that with God?

John 12:34-36
“The people answered him, We have heard out of the law that Christ abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, The Son of man must be lifted up? who is this Son of man?
35 Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.
36 While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them.”

They just couldn’t make it fit. In their minds, the Messiah would set up an earthly kingdom. He would reign here and they would be freed from their oppression of the Roman government. They would finally receive the blessings from God that they had read, studied and believed for centuries.

So, why would this man who claimed to be the Messiah say He would die?

That was not their Messiah. Their Messiah would rescue them the way they thought was right.

They kept trying to make Him fit into their image. But that’s not how it works at all.

Maybe you’re waiting for the same kind of Messiah as the Jews were. You’re looking for someone to rescue you and make everything better and easier here and now.

That’s not how salvation works. God cannot be boxed in. He is far too powerful, wise, and loving to limit His redemption plan to what our finite minds can produce.

God is bigger than that.

Isn’t that the God we want to serve? One that knows more than we do, loves deeper than we can comprehend, and has an incredible master plan that exceeds our own understanding?

What kind of God would He be if we knew and understood everything about Him?

What God can do and who Jesus is cannot be forced into any mold we create.

Want to know more about who God really is? Study the Word of God, the Bible. Don’t just read it, study it. Meditate on it. Consider how what you read applies to your life or situation. And pray that the Holy Spirit would bring you understanding.

You’ll be in awe of what you find.
