My husband and I try to plan little getaways here and there. It’s nice to have that time to reconnect, spend time with one another, talk and listen. Sometimes we dream about a new plan for the future or even a silly one that we know will never happen. We talk through tough decisions and ask one another for advice on situations. By the end of our time away, we are closer, more connected and united as we face the days ahead.
But I don’t want to just experience that closeness here and there when we are able to get away. We make time in our busy schedule to have coffee in the late afternoon together.
Many days, I’ll be in the middle of something, technology failing me, feeling frustrated and overwhelmed and that little text pops up, “coffee at 4:30?”
At first glance, I think, “I don’t have time for this today!” But then I take a deep breath and realize the importance of it and make time.
When the temperature is nice, we sit on the porch together, sipping our coffee and talking through whatever is on our minds. Sometimes, we just look out across the valley and recognize how blessed we are for our work, family, where we live.
I look forward to these times together.
John 18:1-2
“When Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron, where was a garden, into the which he entered, and his disciples.
2 And Judas also, which betrayed him, knew the place: for Jesus ofttimes resorted thither with his disciples.”
The garden.
The place where Jesus would often go.
Why?
To be with the Father. To pray. To commune.
They reconnect, spend time with one another, talk and listen. They discuss new plans for the future, talk through tough decisions and seek guidance for a situation. By the end of His time away, Jesus and the Father are closer, connected and united.
If Jesus felt it was worthwhile to do, and we are His followers, don’t you think we should be doing it too?
Get away with God. Spend time with Him in prayer. Seek His wisdom and guidance.
Don’t have time in your busy schedule? Make time. He has given you life! He is the reason you have the ability to do anything you are doing anyways. Without Him, we are nothing.
Jesus was facing the worst suffering known to man. He was about to be betrayed, arrested, and crucified. Yet, He took time to go to the garden and be with the Lord.
Find that place. Meet with God. Walk with Him in the garden.
You won’t regret it.
