“I want to talk with you. Let me know when you have some time.”
When you hear those words, what goes through your mind?
If you’re like me…
You’re thinking, “What did I do?” I go through a million scenarios—something I said, something I got wrong, an issue, or maybe even a misunderstanding. My mind runs non-stop as this statement pinballs through my brain.
Ping! Ping! Ping!
And then, you have the chance for the sit-down discussion, and you brace yourself for what’s to come.
They share what’s on their mind.
And it’s not what you expected at all.
Encouragement.
The words pour from their mouth, and you sit in shock and amazement. Again, if you’re like me, you’re probably tearing up at this point because, honestly,
it’s exactly what you needed.
Oh, if they only knew what you had been going through recently—the trials, the suffering, the doubts, the fears, the worries… and the questions.
Their words couldn’t have come at a better time.
Sometimes, we all just need some encouragement.
“To bring you up to date, Tychicus will give you a full report about what I am doing and how I am getting along. He is a beloved brother and faithful helper in the Lord’s work. I have sent him to you for this very purpose—to let you know how we are doing and to encourage you. Peace be with you, dear brothers and sisters, and may God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you love with faithfulness. May God’s grace be eternally upon all who love our Lord Jesus Christ.” —Ephesians 6:21–24
Remember when we first started studying this book together? What was the main purpose of this letter from Paul?
It wasn’t to fix problems, correct issues, or address false teaching. It was written simply to encourage the believers in Ephesus.
This whole book is an incredible display of who we are in Christ and how we can be unified in the body of Christ—the church.
Do you need encouragement today? Do you need to be reminded of who you are in Jesus?
If you are His follower, He has saved you and set you free from the bondage of sin. He has clothed you in His robe of righteousness—your sins have been forgiven. You can cast all your worries, fears, doubts, and anxieties at His feet. He is the Lord Almighty, and He has a great plan for your life. He has given you everything you need to stand firm in this spiritual battle. You are His child—loved unconditionally. He gives you a new life in Him, a life of holiness. And with that new life, He has also sent an Advocate, a Comforter who remains within you—the Holy Spirit.
Believer, be encouraged today! If God is for us, who can be against us? The Lord Jesus Christ is our Savior and King! What shall we fear?
If you’ve never asked Christ to save you and you’re desperate for encouragement today, let me show you the way.
Jesus said, “Come and follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” What does this mean? How can you become a truly devoted follower?
