Talk Time

Is someone ever too young to make a difference?

What would it take to make a difference in our world?

Do you know of any younger people in the Bible who made a difference?

Bible Connection

God esteems younger people and often uses them to make a difference in our world! In fact, some of the coolest Bible stories we know today come from people who were young. Let’s look at our first one: David.

Tell me what you know about him or the story of David and Goliath.

David was a teenager when he faced Goliath. By this point, David had been a shepherd for many years. Let’s read the story together…this time, listen for details you may have missed in the past, like why this teenager would want to face off against a giant who was over 9 feet tall with 125 ponds of armor?!

Read 1 Samuel 17:1-51 for the answer. (If you want a shorter reading, begin with verse 20!)

A couple of things gave David the boost of confidence he needed to face off with Goliath:

  1. Goliath defied God’s name, and that made David mad, mad enough to take a stand for the Lord.
  2. God helped David fight lions and bears when they attacked his sheep. God had built up David’s love and trust for Him for this moment. Though others doubted David, he ran out to meet Goliath armed with five stones…but he needed only one. David trusted God so much, God was with him and helped him do the impossible: face and overcome a giant!

Faith Connection

Fear and doubt can take us out of trusting God and experiencing Him.

What are some fears or doubts that have been holding you back? What would it look like if you trusted God with them?
