Faith-Filled Risk
2568 Views

This morning, my friend shared some great points in our morning meeting and devotional. One of the things he shared was about taking a faith-filled risk. He spoke of the time when Jesus fed thousands of people with just five pieces of bread and two fish. It was incredible what God did that day to provide for the needs of all those people out of such a tiny amount. Larry brought up the fact that it was one little boy’s decision to give up his lunch, it was his faith-filled risk, that God used to feed them.

And wouldn’t you know, that’s exactly where I am in my reading today in Mark.

“And when the day was now far spent, his disciples came unto him, and said, This is a desert place, and now the time is far passed: Send them away, that they may go into the country round about, and into the villages, and buy themselves bread: for they have nothing to eat. He answered and said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they say unto him, Shall we go and buy two hundred pennyworth of bread, and give them to eat? He saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? go and see. And when they knew, they say, Five, and two fishes. And he commanded them to make all sit down by companies upon the green grass. And they sat down in ranks, by hundreds, and by fifties. And when he had taken the five loaves and the two fishes, he looked up to heaven, and blessed, and brake the loaves, and gave them to his disciples to set before them; and the two fishes divided he among them all. And they did all eat, and were filled. And they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments, and of the fishes. And they that did eat of the loaves were about five thousand men.” (Mark 6:35-44)

“Are you willing to give up your lunch?”

What faith-filled risk are we willing to take? God is ready to do some incredible things for the people around us, but we have to step out, willing to take that risk.

It may mean giving up comforts. It may mean giving up your time. It might mean your heart will break and you will weep for those you help. It might mean giving up money that you were saving for just in case.

What is God calling you to do? What has He blessed you with that you could in turn use to bless others?

Today, let’s step out in faith, ready to take that risk for Christ, ready to give up our lunch.
