A diary. Full of the details of one’s innermost thoughts expressed onto paper.

We watched an episode of Everybody Loves Raymond, and Ray’s diary from when he was younger was at the center of the conversation. He was appalled that his mother had read his personal writings. And, of course, she was appalled at what he wrote. He couldn’t believe she had deciphered out his “code” and could read what he wrote, but it wasn’t as hidden and disguised as he had hoped. Ray felt vulnerable because his thoughts were exposed before his parents.

But of all the things that were in there, the thing she despised the most, the one that hurt the most, was when Ray wrote these three words,

“I hate my mom.”

Watching this show, I thought, “Why did you keep a journal? Why write your secrets down if they were so secret? There’s always a chance someone could find it.”

Because the truth is, we all have secrets. Things we’ve done, thoughts that have entered our minds, words we have said, something we’ve seen or heard, yet, we’ve never told.

Can you imagine if that was exposed? And what if you were judged by those things?

Romans 2:12-16 NLT

“When the Gentiles sin, they will be destroyed, even though they never had God’s written law. And the Jews, who do have God’s law, will be judged by that law when they fail to obey it. 13 For merely listening to the law doesn’t make us right with God. It is obeying the law that makes us right in his sight. 14 Even Gentiles, who do not have God’s written law, show that they know his law when they instinctively obey it, even without having heard it. 15 They demonstrate that God’s law is written in their hearts, for their own conscience and thoughts either accuse them or tell them they are doing right. 16 And this is the message I proclaim—that the day is coming when God, through Christ Jesus, will judge everyone’s secret life.”

See, even though we may think those secrets are safe with us, that no one has to know, there is One who already knows.

He is the final authority. He is the righteous judge. He has all power, wisdom, and authority. He is the Lord Almighty. He alone is God. There is none other than Him. He is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and End. He sees all things, hears all things, and knows all things.

Even the things you think are locked away in your heart and mind.

Everything will be exposed.

And one day we will ALL stand before Him in judgment for every thought, every word spoken, every evil deed we have done. Justice will be granted that day. Our sins will be judged, and we will receive the judgment due to us.

But it’s also at that moment that someone steps in and says, “I have paid their debt. Their sins are forgiven. The wrath has already been poured out, and I have accepted it on their behalf.”

Jesus.

Do you realize what He did for you on the cross? Every sin – past, present, and future – He took upon Himself. He carried the weight of all our sins as He was crucified and buried. But because of His righteousness, power, and authority, He conquered the wages of sin. He defeated death! He rose from the dead! He brought Himself back to life and rose from the grave! And today, He offers us salvation. He holds out His hand, a hand of forgiveness, redemption, and reconciliation.

All we have to do is accept it.

Are you willing?

For those who accept this beautiful gift of salvation and surrender their lives to Christ, when we stand before God, Jesus says, “I have paid their debt. Their sins are forgiven. The wrath has already been poured out, and I have accepted it on their behalf.”

Because even when our sins were exposed, He loved us anyway.

Romans 5:8
“But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.”

Today is the day of salvation. What better way to start anew than by surrendering it all to Jesus today?
