Everyone Will Be Watching

Have you heard about the solar eclipse coming this Spring? If you haven’t, you probably live under a rock.

It’s everywhere.

Businesses are capitalizing on the event, creating planning committees to focus their efforts towards the eclipse.

It’s captured the attention of the world. Everyone will be waiting. Everyone will be watching.

Luke 23:44

“And it was about the sixth hour, and there was a darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour.”

Darkness.

For 3 hours, it was completely dark on the earth. The sun had been blotted out. There was no light.

Do you think it had everyone’s attention? Surely! Every man, woman and child would have been amazed at what was going on around them.

But what was really happening? Some knew. There were some that connected the dots and realized who Jesus was.

The light of the world.

Gone.

“45 And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst.
46 And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.”

Jesus was dead.

Covered in darkness, the earth and all that was in it seemed to mourn.

All eyes were on the sky. Waiting. What would happen next? What was coming? What did it mean?

“47 Now when the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, Certainly this was a righteous man.”

The Roman soldier responded to everything he had witnessed. He knew the truth. He understood that this was the Son of God. His response was to glorify God.

What is ours?

We’ve seen what Jesus has done. We know who He is. We know the truth. But what do we do with it?

Will we recognize Jesus as the righteous Son of God? Will we fall before Him and praise Him as the light of the world? Will we surrender our will to Him as the true King?

Because the truth is, Jesus isn’t dead. He conquered death on that cross. He was raised from the grave! And soon, the Lord will return, as promised. It will be an event no one can miss. It will capture the attention of the world. Everyone will be waiting. Everyone will be watching.

Will you rejoice for that moment? Or are you terrified?

Jesus is the Prince of Peace. With Him we have nothing to fear. Without Him, we have no hope.
