Before we were even married, Brian and I knew we shared a dream to buy land and build a home. When we were dating and engaged, we would drive around dreaming about our future. We searched for land, looking from one corner of the county to the other. We wanted to find the perfect spot to build our forever home. There were specific things we wouldn’t compromise on. We wanted to be in the country, wanted trees and a pretty yard, and lots of space to roam. We looked at several pieces of property, but none of them checked all our boxes. Finally, one tract of land caught our eye. It was everything we had been looking for, and we knew we couldn’t let it get away. We met with the realtor and that same day gave him an earnest payment and made an offer. We knew the earnest payment wasn’t necessary or even required, but we couldn’t bear to think that someone else might swoop in and buy the property before we could. Our earnest payment was a deposit, promising that we were serious and that we would follow through with our commitment. It was a down payment until we could pay the amount in full and redeem the purchased land to our own possession.
Did you know that if you’re saved, God made an earnest payment for you?
At the very moment that you believed in and trusted in Jesus for salvation, God placed in you the Holy Spirit. It was His earnest payment to you. He was showing you He was serious about redeeming you to Himself. How beautiful is that!
Ephesians 1:13-14 says, In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is THE EARNEST OF OUR INHERITANCE UNTIL THE REDEMPTION OF THE PURCHASED POSSESSION, unto the praise of his glory.
The Holy Spirit is the promise and pledge of all that God has laid up for us in heaven; it’s a deposit.
The Holy Spirit Himself is the seal: a guarantee, a pledge.
Eternal life is a promise—it’s our inheritance from our Father!
God Almighty made an earnest payment for you. His earnest payment will result in the ultimate redemption of you to Himself when you join Him in heaven, where He promises you an unimaginable inheritance.
1 Peter 1:4, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you…
If you’ve ever made an earnest payment for something, you did it because you deeply desired to claim that item, to call it yours, to redeem it to yourself.
Friend, God deeply desires to claim you as His, to call you His child, to redeem you to Himself. Don’t miss out on that redemption. Don’t miss out on receiving that amazing inheritance. Let Him make that earnest payment for you. Call out to Him today.
And if you’ve already been saved and received that earnest payment, I’ll see ya soon! What a promise we have to look forward to. What a day that will be!
“What a day that will be
When my Jesus I shall see
And I look upon His face
The One who saved me by His grace
When He takes me by the hand
And leads me through the Promised Land
What a day, glorious day that will be”
