Don’t Just Tell Me, Show Me

Don’t just tell me, show me.

In 2010, I left the TV business and began a new career at UAMS. It was like nothing I had ever done before. I knew zero about the medical field, only the knowledge from my experiences with my dad and his heart issues. But they didn’t just say, “you’re hired, good luck!” My friend, Sandra, knew the job because she had been a part of creating it. She taught me the basics, walked me through building presentations and was right there with me as she let me fly doing my own programs. She was an incredible mentor and to this day is one of my dearest friends.

“And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” (Matthew 28:18-20)

Jesus had called out these 11 disciples to follow Him. For 3 years they listened as He taught, watched as He performed miracles and showed compassion, and now, it was time for them to fly.

In this statement, what we refer to as the Great Commission, Jesus says He has all power. It was given to Him by God. Only God would have all power in heaven and earth. Here He is claiming His deity. He establishes this first.

Then He says “go and teach”. It was time to put their training into action. They were first to proclaim the gospel, seeing men and women surrender to the Lord’s will and be saved, and then baptize them in the trinity.

Then they were to teach the people all that Jesus had commanded of them. Discipleship was now their calling. Walk alongside those that are saved and don’t just tell them, but show them. That way they will be ready to do the same for someone else.

And lastly, He told them He would always be with them. They could do all of it through the power of Christ and the Holy Spirit! Jesus knew there would be tough obstacles up ahead so He reminded them that He was near, guiding and empowering them to complete their mission.

Proclaim the gospel and Disciple.

Today is a big day my friends! I have a board meeting with Lifeword. You may know the story – a few years ago I began writing for their blog. About a year and a half ago I was invited to join their Board as a member to help make decisions for this organization. And today, I will be on the other side of the table. I now report to the board as an employee of Lifeword Ministries.

And what will I report?

Lifeword, its sole purpose has always been to proclaim the gospel. And it has done that successfully for many years through radio, TV, and internet broadcasting. They share the name of Jesus and His salvation around the world in over 100 languages and countries. Each day they are adding more countries and partners to share the gospel. And our goal is to reach 200 languages by 2025!

And now, as Director of Audience Engagement, I’ve been tasked with helping this organization reach the next level – discipleship.

Don’t just tell me, show me.

How do we get the digital world to hear the gospel and then take that next step into being discipled? I can’t wait to show you!

With an amazing team, and much prayer, we are developing a new way of reaching the digital community.

Jesus said to go and teach.

Are you following the Great Commission? I am extremely thankful and humbled to be a part of this incredible organization that takes this to heart. Lifeword is not just proclaiming the gospel, but we will be teaching the nations through discipleship! And He promises to be with us always.

Tell and Show.

Proclaim and Disciple.
