Suppose there was a man in the mid to late 1800’s who had heard of electricity. He was astounded with the concept and traveled much of the Midwest sharing with everyone this idea. For many, it was hard to grasp. They couldn’t see it, but he told them one day there would be something that shone bright for the world to illuminated.
As he traveled towards the Northeast, he encountered a young couple who heard his speech. He was a great communicator. He did a wonderful job talking about electricity. But then, they heard him share that one day there would be something that would use electricity and all would be able to see it.
After the speech, they met with the man and invited him to their home for dinner. During this time, they shared with the man that he did a wonderful job, but there was something he needed to know. Something he was missing.
Thomas Edison had already invented the lightbulb.
They explained what the bulb was, drew him a picture, and talked about how when the current was turned on, the lightbulb used the electricity and the whole room was illuminated.
He was astonished! And thrilled! Now he had the full story. The light had come and he was ready to share it with the world!
Acts 18:24-26
“Meanwhile a Jew named Apollos, a native of Alexandria, came to Ephesus. He was a learned man, with a thorough knowledge of the Scriptures.
25 He had been instructed in the way of the Lord, and he spoke with great fervor and taught about Jesus accurately, though he knew only the baptism of John.
26 He began to speak boldly in the synagogue. When Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they invited him to their home and explained to him the way of God more adequately.”
Apollos, a highly-educated man, was preaching repentance everywhere he went. He told of John the Baptist, the conduit of the message of God, and how he prophesied that one day the Light of the World, the Messiah, would come. But when Aquila and Priscilla heard this, they realized he was missing the most important piece.
After he had spoken in public, they talked with him privately and shared that the Light of the World had come! His name was Jesus and He was the Christ. As they talked, they shared the details of His life, His sacrifice, death, burial and resurrection, His call for people to believe and His commission for all believers.
Apollos was astonished! And thrilled! Now he had the full story. The light had come and he was ready to share it with the world!
Have you discovered the full story of Jesus? Oftentimes, people will claim a few things about Him but disregard the others. Or maybe they have only learned certain things about Him and they don’t know the full story. They are missing something.
Did you know:
Jesus is the Son of God.
Jesus was perfect and never sinned.
Jesus is God in the flesh.
Jesus has existed forever with God and the Holy Spirit.
Sin requires an unblemished blood sacrifice and Jesus was the only One worthy to fulfill that. That’s why He is called the Lamb of God.
When Jesus died on the cross, He bore our sins on Himself.
He loves you.
He wants to commune with you in your life.
He has a purpose and plan for your life.
While He is loving and forgiving, He also will execute judgment one day on those that defy God.
He is coming again. Soon.
There is so much more to tell. The story of Jesus doesn’t just start in John, it starts with Genesis, because He was in the beginning. All throughout scripture, He was present and active. Don’t just settle for what the world tells you about Jesus, search it out for yourself in the Word of God, the Bible.
He is the Light of the World! He has come and shown us the way. Will you follow Him?
