We lived in a camper for a year while we built our house. It was challenging at times, but also endearing. I enjoyed the closeness we experienced and we have lots of funny, interesting and frightening stories now that we wouldn’t have had otherwise.

One thing I loved most about this time in our lives is that we realized how little we actually need in order to live comfortably. The camper wasn’t huge, so you couldn’t fit a lot in it, just the basics. Clothes, shoes, dishes, furniture, it was all just enough. The rest was in storage. In fact, we sold and gave lots of things away when our time in the camper ended. We realized all those other things are good, but this was really all that was needed.

Today, we come to the end of the book of John. Remember when we began, we talked about the purpose for writing this book. Do you remember what it was?

To prove that Jesus was the Son of God and that believing in Him you could be saved from your sins and have eternal life with God.

And this is how John concludes his book.

John 21:24-25

“This is the disciple which testifieth of these things, and wrote these things: and we know that his testimony is true.
25 And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.”

I love the way that last verse is written, don’t you?

John could tell of the many, many things that Jesus did, but, what he has written is enough.

Enough for what?

Enough to accomplish what he set out to do. Enough to prove who Jesus was.

Jesus’ work was finished when He gave His life on the cross. He defeated sin, death and is victorious over Hell. He cried out to the Father “It is finished”.

John’s work was finished as he penned these last pages. He accomplished what he set out to do.

And today, it rests in our hands. We have all that we need in order to see who Jesus is and decide what we will do with it. We don’t need a hundred, or 1,000 or even 1,000,000 more books to tell us about the great things He did. What we have here is enough.

Today, we choose.

Will we choose to disregard this eye witness account? Will we throw out all of the proof and ignore the truth?

Or will we choose to believe?

That Jesus is the Son of God. That He came to earth, was perfect, sinless, and was the lamb of God. That He wasn’t just a teacher, He was God Himself, robed in flesh, who willingly chose to come here, stepping down from His throne, to save us from our sins. That He was crucified and bore our sins upon that cross. He died and was buried and 3 days later, He rose again, declaring victory over sin! And that He offers salvation to us freely today. Without a catch, without strings attached or work to do to earn it – simply believe.

We have all we need. The choice is ours.

If you choose Jesus, remember, He invited you to join Him on a journey, just as He did His disciples. To learn what it means to walk with Him daily, go to follow.lifeword.org.
