Busy.

Have you said this lately? Or felt it to your core?

This morning, as I closed out the book of Acts, I read something that made me stop and really think about my busyness.

Acts 28:30-31
“Then Paul dwelt two whole years in his own rented house, and received all who came to him,
31 preaching the kingdom of God and teaching the things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ with all confidence, no one forbidding him.”

Paul was under house arrest. He wasn’t free to travel and preach. Instead, he opened his home and people came to him. I don’t read anywhere here about him checking his schedule to see if he had time for another visitor. Or trying to pencil in a gospel conversation with the man across town at about 3:00 because he really needed to get a workout in after lunch.

It seems silly, doesn’t it? Paul is a missionary – he is on mission. He is a disciple of Christ and was called to share the gospel and make disciples. And that’s exactly what we find him doing.

Why is it so obvious that Paul should be busy about those things but not us?

We, too, have been called by God to accept His gift of salvation and be freed from sin. To believe in Jesus as our Savior and Lord and follow Him with our lives. To be on mission with Him, sharing the gospel and making disciples.

Is that what has us so busy?

Time is the greatest commodity. We never receive more than is allotted. The time we have is the time we get. How will we use it?

I’m not saying all the things on your schedule are bad. But what I am saying is, or maybe even asking, how can we use those moments and events to point others to Jesus? How can we shine His light so that others may see Him through us when shopping with our mom, going to the doctor, talking to puppy families, going to lunch, or putting out decorations?

We can be purposeful in our busyness this year. Today, my perspective will be a bit different thanks to Paul. Will yours?
