Blessings That Can’t Be Bought
897 Views

A father took his family on a vacation to Washington, D.C. so that his two children would have the opportunity to learn a portion of the history of our great country.

Although there are many wonderful monuments in Washington, D.C., the young boy was so impressed with the Washington Monument that he offered a security guard all the money that he had with him – a single dollar, to buy the monument.

The guard smiled and told the young boy, “First, you cannot buy the Washington Monument because it is not for sale. Second, you could not afford to buy it even if it was for sale. Third, as an American citizen, you already own it anyway.”

This story reminded me of the blessings that a believer already has in Jesus Christ:

  1.  The blessings of God are not for sale.God offers His blessings freely through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. I hasten to add that the blessings a believer enjoys in Christ, while free to us, cost God everything!
  2. If God’s blessings were for sale, not a single one of us could afford them. God has graciously given each of us countless blessings that money cannot buy. Money cannot buy God’s love, salvation, eternal life or a home in heaven. Money cannot buy health. Money cannot buy the unconditional love of family or loyal friends. Money cannot buy joy, peace, a clear conscious or forgiveness. Money cannot purchase the answer to the meaning of life or answer life’s most significant questions. The most important things in life cannot be purchased with money.
  3. As believers in Jesus Christ we already own God’s blessings. The Apostle Paul declared: “We are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs – heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ” (Romans 8:16,17). These verses state that everything that God the Father has, He has given to the Son—Jesus Christ. Secondly, it says everything Jesus has received from God the Father, He has given to us. Believers are equal heirs with Jesus Christ of all the blessings of the Father! Amazing!

Child of God – you are rich beyond measure.

The things that God has given you through Jesus Christ cannot be purchased with money, but they can be received without cost to you because of the grace of a loving God. Of all men, believers are the most blessed indeed!

“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows” (James 1:17).
