Are Your Gospel Shoes On?

“Where are you going?”

It never fails. If I start putting on my shoes, that’s my husband’s first question. Because really, why do we put on shoes? It’s because we are going somewhere. We are about to do something. We don’t put on shoes to just sit.

Ephesians 6:15
“For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared.”

We’re learning about the different pieces of the armor of God. We’re part of a spiritual battle, and if we are believers in Christ, we’re His soldiers. We’ve already put on the belt of truth and the breastplate of righteousness.

Now, we put on our shoes.

These aren’t just your everyday, run-of-the-mill sandals made of rope and leather. Sure, those may have been the latest in fashion in those days, but these shoes are different. These shoes represent the peace that comes from the gospel of Jesus.

What does that mean?

Think of it this way. You’re putting on shoes to go somewhere, but as a soldier of Christ, where are you going?

You’re going into battle. You’re headed into enemy territory. You’re headed into the world—a world that is ruled by Satan. He is ready to shoot fiery arrows of shame, doubt, fear, and mistrust at you as you make your way through the world. You have a mission—to reach the lost with the gospel. To share the love of Christ with a dying world.

The enemy will attack. There will be traps and obstacles, but you are ready. You are filled with the peace that only Jesus can offer.

Are your shoes ready? These boots are made for walking, my friends! It’s time to go! It’s time to share the gospel, trusting in the peace that Christ is in control of all that awaits us.

“Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” – Matthew 28:19-20
