Creation declares His glory!
After consuming almost an entire bag of boom chicka pop kettle corn, I decided to take an after dinner walk. Yes, it was worth it, even though it was 94 degrees and probably that same percentage of humidity. The sticky air was slightly relieved by the warm breeze that occasionally blew across my sticky face.
The summer sounds of cricket chirps, cicada tymbals, deep croaks of toads, and various bird calls serenaded me as I walked the trail by the creek. The sun glistened off the wings of dragonflies, making them appear like little golden flutters scurrying across the water.
A bright blue bird flew past me with dinner gripped in his beak, perching on the limb of a huge, beautiful tree across from the creek.
A mother and daughter biked past me. The daughter had her head thrown back, enjoying her hair blowing in the wind. Mom rode closely behind her, smiling. I thought about the time our pastor challenged us to see every person we saw in our day as image bearers of Christ. I thought these two were reflecting God’s image beautifully and thanked Him for their smiles.
I was immediately reminded of the verses I had been studying earlier today.
“The heavens declare the glory of God, and the expanse proclaims the work of His hands.” Psalm 19:1 CSB
“For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For His eternal power and divine nature have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.” Romans 1:19-20 ESV
Everywhere I looked, I saw God’s invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature. I heard creation declaring His glory. It was almost like the chirps and croaks and tymbals and calls were working together to perform a song of praise. I heard them cry out, “Emmanuel-He is with us!” His presence is undeniable!
