“Well, if you really want to parent your child correctly…,” said the 22 year old single, childless young man to a mother of three in her 40s.
“So, if you need that carburetor to stop giving you trouble…,” said the high school cheerleader to the seasoned mechanic.
“You really should not put so much flour in that bread mixture…,” said the non-baker 13 year old to his grandmother with more years of experience than the teenager’s life tripled.
These “words of advice” do not carry much weight to the one receiving them, do they? The source giving the advice has no experience with the subject he/she is advising on.
Thank the Lord, “Since He Himself has gone through suffering and testing, He is able to help us when we are being tested.” (Hebrews 2:18)
Jesus understands our suffering and our temptations. There is nothing we face that we cannot bring to Him, because He is the most reliable source. He longs for us to turn to Him.
We might think, “Why would I go to the Creator of all, the King of all Kings, with questions or concerns that I, a mere human-part of His creation, am facing? Why would I “bother” Him with my problems?”
But, Jesus longs to relate to you, to know you, to save you, enough that He became one of us and faced everything we could face…and He managed to live through all of that without sin, facing each situation exactly as we should. He is 100% the person we should turn to with any question, with any pain. Our cries to Him are acknowledging Him as sovereign, not ever a bother.
Psalm 34:17 tells us that He hears our cries and answers us.
“And the Word (Christ) became flesh, and lived among us; and we [actually] saw His glory, glory as belongs to the [One and] only begotten Son of the Father, [the Son who is truly unique, the only One of His kind, who is] full of grace and truth (absolutely free of deception).”
John 1:14 AMP
He humbled Himself to live among us, experiencing life as a man, willingly choosing to face the trials of this world.
“Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: but made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: and being found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.”
Philippians 2:5-8 (KJV)
Jesus faced temptation without giving in to it (Matthew 4:1-11), He faced poverty (Matthew 8:20), He knew frustration (John 2:15-16), He was weary (John 4:6), He understands disappointment (Luke 13:34), He experienced rejection (John 6:66), He knew ridicule (Mark 15:19), He was lonely (Matt 27:46), and there is no temptation or trial you will experience that He will not be able to relate to.
As we celebrate Christmas, we are celebrating more than a baby being born, more than the fact that Jesus loves us. We are really celebrating the choice Jesus made to humble Himself and come TO us as our Savior, allowing us to have a relationship with Him!
“So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will find grace to help us as we need it most.” Hebrews 4:16 NLT
