A Transforming God
7816 Views

“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” – Romans 12:2 (KJV)

With the dawn of the New Year this week, we will all have the opportunity to consider resolutions, changes, or improvements to our present lifestyle and mindset. Transformation will be widely advertised through the purchase of products, programs, and prescriptions. As you turn the calendar to a new, fresh year, what does honest self-examination indicate that needs your attention? If you dare, ask anyone who feels safe being truthful with you. Where do you want to be a year from now…physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually? Write this statement with a sharpie on your forehead: “God is a transforming God.” The Skilled Potter honors your obedience to be molded as fresh clay. Sadly, we usually oppose the stretching, pounding, and creating phase. It just doesn’t feel good and it takes longer than we usually like, or care to invest. Transformation is about choosing to be the blob of clay on the Master’s Wheel. It’s a choice to allow His sovereignty to reign, surrendered to His timing, and for His purpose and pleasure.

I’ve always thought of resolution/transformations as a commitment I dreamed up, wrestled with, made excuses for, and fell short of total completion with success. (I’m not a good commercial for surrender most days!) But what if you were guaranteed results that were eternal? There is a patent for that…in God’s way. Beyond satisfaction is His specialty. His way is prescriptive and time-tested. His availability is unmatched and His manner is full of compassion. I’d say with God you always get the brother-in-law price and the preacher discount. That’s a deal just meant for you!

So as 2022 closes, resist the urge to only measure your goals with bathroom scales or your successes with a flow chart or Google Doc. Aim higher! Allow the God of the Universe to speak over and transform your clay into a masterpiece that you could never have imagined because it didn’t originate with you, but in the mind and heart of your Heavenly Father.
