Yes, You CAN Have Faith That Moves Mountains
2211 Views

You hear about faith that moves mountains. But who really believes it? That kind of faith, we reason, God reserves for Old Testament prophets, New Testament disciples, or modern-day saints.

I am none of those.

So I offer my all to God. Take me! Make me! Mold me! Use me! Then I smother His Spirit with limits and walk through each day expecting … nothing.

I cheer and applaud all those on the “front lines” of the faith. I stand up and shout when God shows up for them. I pray and plead for God to do great things through them.

But I am not them.

Or am I?

To those who have obtained a faith of equal standing with ours by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ.” 2 Peter 1:1 (ESV)

Peter penned these words. THE Peter. The rock on which Jesus built His church. The one who walked on water.  This Peter says your faith is “of equal standing” with his. Let’s hang out here for a minute. Because this step out of the boat was so much more than just a step out of Peter’s comfort zone.

The scene sets up like this . . . Jesus prays alone on a mountain while the disciples struggle to cross the sea. The winds beat against the boat and in the middle of the night here comes Jesus out to meet them, walking on the water.

While everyone else yelled, “Ghost!” . . .

Peter answered him, ‘Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.‘ He said, ‘Come.’ So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus.” Matthew 14:28-29 (ESV)

Tell me to walk on water! What got into him?

No amount of resources, talent, or practice will prepare you to walk on water. IT IS NOT POSSIBLE. Humans sink in water. It’s simple science. Peter had to know the danger. Surely he assessed the situation and landed on the same outcome as the rest of us. Or maybe not . . .

Maybe in that snapshot of a moment, Peter saw his own life through Jesus’ eyes. Maybe he put on that power and actually believed it. Believed he can do all things through Christ. Believed Christ’s power is made perfect in his weakness. Believed with God all things are possible. And that belief birthed boldness.

Faith transforms any man into a miracle.

It’s as big as the man in South Africa who sold all he had and boarded a plane. He gave his life to Jesus and came to America to serve his Savior. He set foot on U.S. soil with nothing. No resources. No talent. No practice. But with eyes locked on Jesus he refused to stay put. Tell me to come.

It’s as small as the boy at the kitchen table who seized a moment to tell his little brother, “Jesus loves you.” He saw a life in need of salvation. No resources, not talent, no practice. But a heart full of Jesus led his lips to speak life. Tell me to come.

This life limits our resources and talents, but nothing limits our faith.

His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence.” 2 Peter 1:3 (ESV)

You have everything you need. What will you do with it?

Dare you ask Jesus? If it is you, tell me to come.
