Spoiler Alert:

People actually don’t mind them.

I heard a DJ on the radio the other day say that research shows (which is also interesting—that someone is doing research on this…) that spoiler alerts don’t actually spoil anything for the reader or viewer. They will still watch the movie, read the book, or attend the show, even if they know the ending.

Why?

Because they want to see the events that led up to it. They want to know the whole story.

Well, have I got a spoiler alert for you this morning!

**2 Thessalonians 2:8**

*“And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming.”*

Jesus Christ will destroy evil! He wins! Good triumphs over evil! The Antichrist will be defeated.

We know how this story ends, but it doesn’t stop us from living. Because there are more details written. There’s more to the story.

Like, who is the Antichrist? What will he do? Where does he get his power? He’s being held back, but who’s holding him back? And who will follow him, and why? What will happen to those who follow him and deny Jesus?

That’s what Paul was trying to share with the believers in Thessalonica, and it’s what he shares with us today.

Although there were some who said Judgment Day had already come, Paul told them there would be certain events that would happen before the Lord returns to this earth.

First, there would be a great falling away. People would turn from God. They would choose their own way instead of Jesus. There would be a great number of people who were anti-Christian.

And there would be a man who exalts himself as god and demands to be worshiped.

Where will he get his power?

From Satan.

This man is referred to as the lawless one, the son of perdition, the man of sin, the Antichrist.

For now, he is being held back. But at some point, he will be revealed, and chaos will ensue. Those who have chosen to follow him and reject the Lord will face judgment as well.

Because when Jesus returns, judgment is coming with Him.

The evil in this world will be punished.

**Why is it important that we know this?**

Because there are people out there today who have never heard the name of Jesus. They don’t know who He is or that He wants to save them from the coming judgment.

If we’re followers of Christ, it’s our responsibility to know and to share.

And if you’re not a follower of Jesus, what are you waiting for?

Do you not know that God created this world and everything in it, including you? He gave you a mind, a spirit, and free will. And with that freedom, we chose to disobey God’s laws of holiness. We chose sin.

That sin has separated us from God, here on this earth and for eternity.

But God loved us so much that He sent His own Son, Jesus, to pay the penalty for our sins. He died for us.

And today, He offers us this beautiful gift of forgiveness. If we accept it, we will be saved. We will be freed from the punishment of our sins and spend eternity with the Lord.

But if we reject the gift He offers, we will face judgment.

**Choose Jesus. He’s the only way to salvation.**

When the Lord returns, I’ll be glad I knew the ending.

I know I’ll be standing with Christ.

Will you?
