Now?!

It was January 2007. My sister was living with me in Jonesboro, expecting her first child. We were both nervous. I’m sure she was more so than I was. But as the day got closer to his arrival, we were trying to get everything ready.

I was working at the TV station then, and she had a checkup appointment with the obstetrician. I let her use my car and told her I would have my photographer drop me by the house after work.

It was around 10 a.m. or so when I got the call.

“Well, they aren’t going to let me leave. They said he’s coming.”

I was shocked!

“Wait, what?! Now? Like, he’s coming right now?”

My sister said she was fine. He wasn’t here yet, but she was definitely progressing, and they were admitting her.

Labor had begun.

I frantically finished my work and had my friend drop me off at the hospital.

And we waited.

And waited.

My work hours were from 4–12. I usually got up around 2:30 a.m., so to say I was tired was an understatement. I’d been up for 24 hours and was still waiting on this boy. But it was my sister who was dealing with the pain and true exhaustion.

Finally, on January 11, my nephew arrived.

“For when they say, ‘Peace and safety!’ then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape.”
1 Thessalonians 5:3

We’ve been talking about the return of Jesus. Paul informs the believers at Thessalonica that yes, Jesus is coming. But they should be busy doing the will of God because no one knows when that will be.

It will happen suddenly.

Just like a woman going into labor.

For some, that will be a joyous moment! They will be called up to Heaven because they have put their faith in Jesus as their Savior.

But for others, those who have denied God and His offer of forgiveness, they will face the judgment He will pour out on sin.

They shall not escape.

We know He’s coming. That has been promised in Scripture. We just don’t know when.

Will that be a joyous moment of celebration and rejoicing as you enter Heaven and are present with the Lord? Or will that be a day of dread and fear as you face the judgment of the Lord?

There’s no better time than right now to make sure we are prepared for His return.

All of us are sinners who will face punishment for our sins if we don’t ask for forgiveness. Jesus gave His life in our place to pay for the sins we have committed. And He offers us forgiveness and eternal life in Heaven with Him if we will accept Him.

“If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
Romans 10:9–10

Pray to the Lord and ask Him to save you.

Today is the day of salvation!
