We’ve Got Work to Do
6 Views

The company had just been bought out by a new one. The debt had been too high, and there was no way to recover. With the new ownership came changes, a new set of standards, and those who didn’t like it, well, they had the invitation to leave.

The new owner was coming soon. He was bringing with him a large number of people who would help lead the changes and support and encourage the employees.

But when would they come? The memo had gone out, but no one knew the date of their arrival. The employees just knew they had to be ready whenever it was.

Once, we were ruled by self, but Christ offered to step in and pay the debt we owed. It was too high, and we had no way to recover. His sacrifice on the cross paid for our sins, and our debt was canceled. When we accepted His offer of salvation, He stepped in and took over. The Holy Spirit brought forth knowledge and understanding of His standards, far different from what we were used to. He offers support and encouragement as we learn and grow to do the work He’s given us to do.

Until He comes again.

1 Thessalonians 3:13

“…so that He may establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all His saints.”

That’s right, Christ is coming again.

Remember why Paul wrote this letter to the believers in Thessalonica. There was confusion about when Christ would take them home to heaven. Many of the new believers believed it would happen soon after salvation. They were enduring persecution and wondered why they hadn’t been called home and why this was happening. Paul wrote to encourage them in their struggles and remind them that, yes, Christ was coming again, but none of us know when that will be.

Do you look at this world and wonder why Jesus hasn’t come back yet? I pray every day that today will be that day. And then I remember how gracious God was to wait for me to surrender to Him.

Who else might He be waiting on?

Could it be one person He’s put in your path to reach?

How incredible that the God of the universe asks us to join Him in this great mission! What an honor and privilege!

We’ve got work to do before Jesus returns!

Lord, open our eyes and hearts to see where You are working around us!
