Your Old Facebook Posts Might Reveal Your Spiritual Growth
54 Views

Facebook memories.

Some you love. And some, well, they’re just cringy. There’s nothing I’m more embarrassed by than some of my posts from years ago.

We can all look back and see how we’ve matured since then. Well, at least I hope so.

Usually, time and experience lead to maturity. We learn lessons. We grow in knowledge, truth, understanding, and wisdom. We are changed.

Colossians 1:28–29
“Him (Jesus) we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus. To this end I also labor, striving according to His working which works in me mightily.”

The word perfect here does not mean flawless. I don’t know a person on this planet, saved or lost, who has ever been able to be perfect except for Jesus. The word perfect means mature. Paul was interested and invested in teaching truth to people so they could know Jesus and grow into spiritual maturity in Him.

Think about it. Are there things you’ve said or done in the past when you were newer to the faith that you wouldn’t say today? I’d be the first to raise my hand. There are conversations that immediately come to mind where I cringe when I think of how I handled the situation or remember words that, at the time, seemed wise to me.

It doesn’t mean we’re perfect. It means we’re maturing spiritually. How does that happen?

As we study God’s Word, learn from wise teachers, and experience life, we are led by the Holy Spirit. He uses all of these things to shape us, mold us, and transform us into the image of Christ. As followers of Christ, we should look back at where we started and see how far we’ve come.

The question is, are you still where you started?

The Lord can lead us, and He can feed us, but we still have to choose to eat. We should be hungry for His Word and His truth, with a desire to grow in Him. Just as it says in 1 Peter 2, we should be like babies craving milk.

But is that where we still are? In our spiritual life, age really doesn’t matter. We can be seventy years old and still be babies spiritually speaking.

Are you growing? Are you maturing in Christ? Listen to the nudge of the Holy Spirit this morning. Open your Bible and allow God to guide, speak, encourage, and teach you. Seek wise, godly counsel. Learn from pastors and teachers who have dedicated their lives to studying the truths of Scripture. This is how we mature in Him.
