The Legacy of a Great Teacher
45 Views

The impact a teacher has on a student is life-changing.

My fingers tapped the keys of the computer as I typed out my script for our news-production class. The first thing that came to mind was, I wish they could see me now.

My teachers.

It wasn’t to boast in what I was doing, but because I knew they would be proud. All of the time, the investment, the outpouring of love and work, even the hard talks in the hallway to get me focused on what really mattered. They knew the importance of education in our lives, but they also knew the difference a real investment could make in students. To show them, not just tell them. And then, to see it all come together, to know they are making a difference. Like a master craftsman teaching a skill to an apprentice and watching them excel.

As I sat in that classroom, I could only dream of where I would be in the future. And today, even as I write this, there’s this part of me that still wants to make them proud. To thank them. But words don’t give the highest honor. A life living out what we’re taught is what truly matters.

I wouldn’t be where I am or who I am today if it weren’t for my incredible teachers.

“The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.” – Philippians 4:9

Paul had spent a great deal of time with the people of Philippi teaching them about Christ, salvation, and how to follow Jesus. Many of them received Jesus as their Savior because of the teachings of Paul. But he didn’t stop there. He invested and equipped them to live for Jesus. He was an example for them, just as a master craftsman teaching an apprentice.

I love this verse. It’s not just about knowing something; it is about putting it into action.

Do.

That’s the charge from Paul. Everything you’ve learned and seen from me, do it.

What if Paul was giving us that same charge?

Everything we’ve learned about Christ, His teachings, His examples, His commandments… it’s time to put them into action.

It’s not just about knowing how to be a disciple of Christ, it’s about being that disciple.

Are we putting our knowledge into action?

So perhaps Paul was actually the first to coin the phrase, Just Do It.

Are you ready?
