That’s so AI

“Look at this video,” my husband said, showing me footage of a coyote chasing a roadrunner. I shook my head and replied, “That’s so AI!”

We spent the next five minutes debating whether the clip was real. Technology is advancing at a frightening pace. AI-generated photos and videos are becoming increasingly hard to distinguish from real ones. While many people are using it for fun and entertainment, others are weaponizing it for more sinister purposes. Deepfakes, misinformation, and fake news propaganda are becoming all too common.

The Pew Research Center reports that fifty-three percent of U.S. adults get some news from social media. Before AI, polarization was bad enough. Social media produced echo chambers, exposing only information that reinforced existing beliefs. People are incentivized to believe anything that matches their worldview. If it doesn’t, it’s easier to say, “That’s fake.” But for truth seekers, this can be problematic.

Because of artificial intelligence, nothing is beyond suspicion. What can we believe? Should we be encouraging skepticism? Are the things in front of us true? As technology continues to advance, these are questions worth considering. In 1845, Edgar Allan Poe wrote, “Believe nothing you hear, and only one half that you see.” Yet in this digital age, it’s hard to believe anything we read, hear, or see. It’s hard to even trust our own thoughts.

But praise God, not everything in this world is untrustworthy. Absolute truth exists, and it can be known. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6). Truth is revealed to us in God’s Word. This truth is not subjective, as in the opinion of man; it is objective, inspired by God. “Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the Scripture is of any private interpretation. For prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit” (2 Peter 1:20–21).

The words we read in the Bible come directly from God. “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16). It is divinely inspired—God-breathed—and profitable for all. Through God’s Holy Word, we can know what is right (doctrine), what is wrong (reproof), how to get right (correction), and how to stay right (instruction in righteousness). There is no deficiency in God’s Word. Scripture is sufficient, inerrant, authoritative, and fully able to equip us for every good work. In it, we discover and understand what is true about God and this world. In it, we learn how to live with discernment. In it, we learn how to think with a biblical worldview.

So don’t be anxious, dear child of God. In a world full of doubt, you have everything you need to know the truth. We have the Word that contains truth (John 17:17), we have the Holy Spirit who teaches truth (John 14:26), and to those who ask, God gives wisdom to understand truth (James 1:5). When things in this life are hard to believe, know that God’s Word is sure, steadfast, and believable. There is nothing AI about it.
