The Truth the Headlines Won’t Tell You
103 Views

Here’s what you need to know…

It’s the idea behind every headline on the news, in the paper, or in a statement from a police or military force.

There are a lot of details to this story—countless events that have taken place that have led to this point. But if it had to be summarized in one sentence, this is the main thing you need to know.

At least, that’s what we want from a news source. Not its opinion or take on the matter—just the facts. “Here’s what happened.”

Threats, bombings, terrorist groups retaliating—the list goes on and on of what has happened overnight or in the past few days. But people are in desperate need of something the news can’t give them.

They need hope.

“You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross. Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” -Philippians 2:5-11

Paul was encouraging the believers in Philippi to work together, to be unified, and to accomplish the mission set before them. They were to serve one another, share the gospel, and make disciples. This would only be accomplished if they did so with humility. He knew they needed an example. They needed to be told what to do and shown how to do it.

Who was a better example than Christ?

Paul laid out this beautiful picture of the humility of Jesus.

He showed that:

  • Jesus was God
  • He became man to fulfill God’s plan of salvation
  • He took on man’s sin on the cross
  • He died for us so that we could be saved
  • His obedience was rewarded
  • He reigns on high with the Lord
  • We are all under His authority

If there were anything I could share with this desperate, dark, and hopeless world, it would be this very truth that Paul shared.

Because it’s what you need to know.

It’s facts, not opinions. It’s truth. And it’s the hope that we need.

When we read this, we cannot help but stop and ask questions.

Why would Jesus leave His throne in heaven to come to earth as a man?

Because He loves us.

Why would He, being perfect and sinless, choose to take my sins?

Because He loves us.

Why would Christ suffer and die in such an extreme way through crucifixion?

Because He loves us.

Why would we want to serve Him?

Because He loves us.

Here’s what you need to know:

The time is coming. Jesus is coming again. And no matter who you are, where you’re from, your background, religion, or personal preferences, every knee will bow before Jesus.

Because He is the King of Kings. He is the Lord of Lords. He is the Almighty Creator and Righteous Judge.

But He is also the Savior of the world, and He made a way for us to be saved from the punishment our sins deserve.

Will you trust Him? Will you choose to follow Him? He is already on the throne. He is Lord. But will you surrender to His authority over your life?

Today.

Surrender to Him today.
