What Matters Most When Time Is Running Out
92 Views

If instead of one more day, we consider life to be one less, what would be the most important thing to share with someone?

What would I want the people I love to know?

As I was reading in Ephesians this morning, I came to chapter 3, where Paul continues his letter to the church in Ephesus. He finishes this section with a prayer for them.

And if we have one less day . . .

I would want those that I love—

I would want you—

to know the truth.

To come to understand that no matter who you are or what you’ve done, or haven’t done, there is One who desperately loves you in spite of it all.

Ephesians 3:14–21

Paul’s prayer is beautiful. He loved people and desired for them to know the truth about Jesus. He wanted to break down barriers that had lasted for centuries and reveal the incredible plan God had for His church.

He starts by declaring God’s authority. He says he prays to the Creator of everything in Heaven and on earth. If you created something, it is yours. You have the power to do what you want with it. God is the authority over us. He could destroy us because of our sin, and He would have every right to do so. But because He is merciful, because He is patient, we have another opportunity to hear the truth and be saved.

Lamentations 3:22–23

He states that God’s power and resources are unlimited. Can you imagine? Not only does He have the authority to save you and transform you, but He also has the abundant resources and power to do so. Nothing is beyond Him. If you think you’ve done something so terrible God could never forgive, this is proof of the opposite.

When we are saved, God doesn’t just leave us. It’s not just a handshake to say, “Glad you’re here,” and then we never see Him again. He promises to walk with us every day. His very Spirit comes to live within us. As Paul put it, Jesus makes His home within our hearts as we trust Him.

But let me tell you, my friends, the Holy Spirit cannot abide in a sinful home. We can come to the Lord just as we are, but our compassionate and loving God will not leave us there. The Holy Spirit begins to clean house—from the inside out. Soon, our desires, our thoughts, our words, and our actions begin to look more like Christ and less like us. As we read and discover more about Him in His Word, we become a reflection of Jesus.

My hope is this:

“And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep His love is.
19 May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.”

If you only knew the depth of God’s love. ❤️ I say it often, but there is nothing better than being known and being loved by God Almighty. From Him, all blessings flow. Through Him, understanding blooms. And by Him, we have redemption.

And what are we to do? How do we ever thank Him for rescuing us? The Great Shepherd left the ninety-nine to come and save the one lost sheep.

We offer our lives in surrender and service to the One who gave it all—the One who poured out His blood on our behalf, the One who had it all but gave it up to redeem us from the penalty of sin.

Glory to God. He is worthy.

“Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.
21 Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen.”

Have you been saved? Praise Him!
Have you discovered the truth of Jesus in His Word? Share Him!
Have you found a church family? Serve Him!

And if you answered no to any of those questions, let me show you the way. It’s time. One less day . . .
