Ready to Quit? God’s Encouragement for the Weary Servant
152 Views

“That’s it! I’m done! I’m tired of doing this with no thanks. And the fact that they were recognized for their work and I wasn’t . . . it’s unbelievable! I’ve given them so much, have gone above and beyond, and someone else gets rewarded. No thank you. I’m done.”

Have you said those words—or at least thought them once or twice?

It’s hard to see others getting rewarded for a job well done when you know the truth. Or seeing someone who is cutting corners and not working with integrity receive praise or a raise.

Whether we’re talking about a job, a one-sided relationship, church ministry, or even everyday life at home, the truth is, sometimes the thank-yous just don’t come.

No pats on the back. No “well done.” No thank-you-so-much. No little card in the mail. And no extra money.

Is it time to quit? Do you give up? Are you throwing in the towel?

Let’s get some advice from Paul.

Galatians 6:9–10
“So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone—especially to those in the family of faith.”

Let’s not get tired. This isn’t just talking about being physically tired, but about a spiritual exhaustion or discouragement that leads to a loss of confidence and strength. It’s what fuels the desire to give up.

“…of doing what is good.” Not just good in general, but what is excellent, beautiful, and commendable. But here’s the kicker—we’re not talking about doing it for people, but for God.

If you’ve found yourself in that place where you are throwing up your hands in surrender and saying, “Forget it! I’m done!”, let me encourage you with these reminders:

1. God Is All-Seeing

Proverbs 15:3
“The Lord is watching everywhere, keeping his eye on both the evil and the good.”

Hebrews 4:13
“Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable.”

Isaiah 40:27
“O Jacob, how can you say the Lord does not see your troubles?
O Israel, how can you say God ignores your rights?”

The word “Lord” here is from the word “El Roi” which means, the God who sees.

The Lord sees you. He knows what you’re doing. He sees all the work you do for Him—the effort, the sacrifice, and the endless hours you pour into others. Nothing is hidden from Him.

2. Our Reward Is in Heaven

Matthew 5:12
“Be happy about it! Be very glad! For a great reward awaits you in heaven. And remember, the ancient prophets were persecuted in the same way.”

We may not experience great rewards here on earth for the work we do, but we can be sure that if it is Spirit-led, God will use it.

1 Corinthians 15:58
“So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless.”

Colossians 3:17
“And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.” 23-24 “Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ.”

3. Serving the Lord Fills Us with Joy

1 Samuel 12:24
“But be sure to fear the Lord and faithfully serve him. Think of all the wonderful things he has done for you.”

When we remember how God has saved us, how He has worked in our lives, and what He has brought us through, we can’t help but feel joy—and a desire to serve Him.

Psalm 16:11
“You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever.”

John 15:11
“I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow!”

Keep serving. Keep working for the Lord. Keep doing what is right—always. Why?

Because we have something others don’t: hope. The confident assurance found in God. And we know that, just as His Word promises, at the right time, there will be a great harvest of blessing. You never know what the Lord will do with your yes.

Don’t give up, friends. The Lord sees you. He has a great reward prepared. And He offers you joy—even today.
