A Man With God’s Spirit In Him
93 Views

There are billions of men and women in the world. But there are some who are distinctive and different. Their lives carry a fragrance that is gracious and kind, but amazingly powerful. They speak with an authority that is not overpowering but overwhelmingly clear. Their enemies are confused by their confidence but those with ears to ear, receive life-giving truth.

We will one day see that these are the ones who rule the world, in the Divine economy, just as they were designed to do by God. The meek (those who are willing to be governed by God) inherit the earth.

JOSEPH

… was such a man. His life began in seeming tragedy. Envied by his brothers, they literally tried to kill him, but then relented and sold him into slavery. Joseph was bought by an officer in Egypt and everything he did prospered because “the Lord was with him.” The difference was that Joseph knew that God was the reason for his rescue and his prosperity, and in humility, he always gave God the glory. He was a man God could trust.

Through another twist of God’s sovereignty, he was falsely accused and placed into prison. When two prisoners had dreams that they couldn’t understand, Joseph was right where God needed him.

“We had dreams,” they said to him, “but there is no one to interpret them.” Then Joseph said to them, “Don’t interpretations belong to God? Tell me your dreams.” (Genesis 40:8)

His relationship with his Master, this moment, and these men eventually opened the door for him to stand before Pharoah and interpret his dreams which no one in the kingdom could interpret. The prisoner, Joseph, was brought before the most powerful ruler in the known world.

Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I have had a dream, and no one can interpret it. But I have heard it said about you that you can hear a dream and interpret it.” (Genesis 41:15)

Listen to Joseph’s immediate, humble response.

“I am not able to,” Joseph answered Pharaoh. “It is God who will give Pharaoh a favorable answer.” (Genesis 41:16)

This one statement is the key to any man’s usefulness. He recognized and quickly spoke of his inability but God’s complete ability.

It was a monumental moment that would literally lead to the salvation of the whole world, and God had, once again, strategically placed Joseph right where He needed him.

HIS WISDOM AND EXALTATION

Joseph interpreted the dream saying that there would be seven years of plenty and seven of famine. And then, with wisdom given by God, he told Pharoah to prepare the first seven years for the drought of the last seven. Notice Pharoah’s immediate response to this slave-prisoner whom Pharoah hardly knew.

The proposal pleased Pharaoh and all his servants, and he said to them, “Can we find anyone like this, a man who has God’s spirit in him?” So, Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Since God has made all this known to you, there is no one as discerning and wise as you are. You will be over my house, and all my people will obey your commands., Only I, as king, will be greater than you.” (Genesis 41:37-40)

BOLD, GOD-GLORIFYING FAITH

Joseph had something that others didn’t possess. Even the “wisest” of the world couldn’t come close. What was that?

God’s Spirit was in him.

In humility, Joseph knew that was so. When moments arose, he boldly, authoritatively seized the moment, not to proclaim his own ideas, but God’s. God prospered him and opened doors that eventually would sustain his own race and all the world.

HOW DO PEOPLE DESCRIBE YOU?

If those around you were to speak a sentence to describe you, what would they say? Could there be anything more wonderful than Pharoah’s description of Joseph? “God’s Spirit is in him.”

This happened because Joseph walked with God and God with him. He lived in God’s near presence, and it was evident. And it gave him the boldness to speak with power when every opportunity came.

Oh, Father, thank You that, because of Your salvation, Your Spirit now lives in me. Let me so live for Your glory every day that I let You lead and speak through me. Let me not hesitate to proclaim Your ability when the moment comes. Astound the world, Lord, with Your wisdom, and let me boldly proclaim its genesis so all the world will know of You.
