From Red Square to Redemption: The Hilarious Mix-Up That Led to a Deeper Truth
258 Views

We sat at lunch, snacking on chips and salsa as we waited for our dinner to arrive. The conversation centered around a trip to Russia and like most of Donny Parrish’s stories, it was a tale to remember.

It was late. But he knew he couldn’t come to Russia without seeing pieces of history. He stood outside of Red Square and shouted to the guard, “I want to see Lenin’s tomb!” Over and over, he did this, until finally, the guard opened the gate and said, “Hurry”.

He continued his story and all the while my thoughts were churning. Finally, I asked, “Why is John Lennon buried in Russia?”

    Laughter erupted.

    🫤

Apparently, they weren’t talking about the famous Beatles singer, but about a Russian leader. A key leader, I should have known about…

What could I say? Donny has a love for music and the arts, so I wrongly made the connection to the legendary singer.

In my defense, which was poor, I really didn’t listen in history class. David Ward can attest to that. I was too busy talking.

At least they got a good laugh out of it, right?

I’ll be honest. There’s a lot I don’t know. I think it’s safe to say there’s more that I don’t know than I do! But one day, everything will be made known to us. Did you know that?

    1 Corinthians 13:12

“Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely.”

How incredible is that? Today, we may not understand. We may have a gazillion unanswered questions, but one day, when we see Jesus face to face, we will know all that we need to know.

But here’s the thing about that. It won’t just be trivial knowledge of worldly history. We will also be bared before the Lord Almighty, the One who has all authority to judge our sins.

Will He be welcoming us with joy and open arms as a father welcomes his child home? Or will it be before Him as the Judge because we never believed in Him to save us?

The Bible says that if we believe in our heart and confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord, we will be saved. His death on the cross paid the penalty for our sins. Our debt has been cancelled. We have been redeemed. That sin has already been dealt with.

But those who reject Christ here on the earth, those who deny the truths about Him, those who choose their own way over God’s, will face the judgment.

    John 5:24-27

“Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.

25 Very truly I tell you, a time is coming and has now come when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who hear will live.

26 For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself.

27 And he has given him authority to judge because he is the Son of Man.”

The most crucial piece of information you could know today is the gospel – the truth about Jesus.

What you know and believe about this can either bring about eternal peace or separation from God.
