Trusting God’s Plan

“Well, if you ask me… “

Well, I didn’t.

Family functions can be filled with laughter, making memories, and catching up. But when the advice starts to roll in…

Maybe we all have an Aunt Karen who wants to put her two cents in every time a conversation comes up about your children, your job, your relationship, etc.

Can you relate to the Geico commercial, “We’ve got Aunts”?

She always has something to say, as if you haven’t already gone down every possible path to come to the best conclusion and plan of action. It wouldn’t matter if you told her all of the things you’ve tried, the research behind why what she suggests won’t work, or that she knows absolutely nothing about the depth of the situation.

She’s still going to try to offer her opinion.

And if you can’t think of who that might possibly be in your family, maybe you are the Aunt Karen. 🤭 (No offense to anyone named Karen, I truly love you.)

As I’m reading through Romans 11, I’ll be honest, I have prayed multiple times for the Lord to bring about understanding to my mind. As followers of Christ, we have the Holy Spirit within us. He is our helper, our comforter, and opens our eyes to the truth of God’s Word. As we consume information and grow in knowledge, He turns it into wisdom. So, I’ve been asking for help. Not just Romans 11, but the whole book. Help in understanding why God does the things He does. Why does He choose this specific way? Why does He allow this to happen? And then, I think, Why not just do it this way and it be easier? Why… if you want my opinion…

And you know what He shared with me today? It’s straight out of Romans 11, put here for this very reason.

Romans 11:33-36
“Oh, how great are God’s riches and wisdom and knowledge! How impossible it is for us to understand His decisions and His ways! For who can know the Lord’s thoughts? Who knows enough to give Him advice? And who has given Him so much that He needs to pay it back? For everything comes from Him and exists by His power and is intended for His glory. All glory to Him forever! Amen.”

He does not need my opinion. He doesn’t need me to tell Him how to run things. Who am I that I should tell God anything??

He is GOD!

Do we get that??

He is the Creator of all the earth and the heavens. He speaks, and things come into existence. With one breath, life was given. He formed the night and day from nothing. The waves and wind obey Him. The rocks cry out to glorify Him. He is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and end. He has always been and always will be. He knows all, He sees all, and He is in control of all. While we are in the middle of our story, He is already at the end. His vision isn’t limited by time or space. God has all authority and He is perfect, righteous, and just.

These scriptures testify to the truth of God. “Oh the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God!! How unsearchable… who has known the mind of God?”

When we, thinking so highly of ourselves, try to offer God a plan, a reason, an attempt at doing things differently, we ignorantly say, “Well, if you ask me, God…”

And He lovingly looks at us and says, “Well, I didn’t.”

“For of Him, and through Him, and to Him, are all things: to whom be glory forever. Amen.”

Are we trusting in Him? It’s okay to ask God questions, but through it all, are we okay with not understanding all of the whys? Are we going to trust that He is sovereign and good no matter the outcome? Will we be faithful even when we don’t understand?

As Jesus cried out to the Father before going to the cross, may we be found uttering the same humble words of surrender, “Not my will, but Thine.”
