It’s that simple.
That’s a hard statement for us to believe sometimes, isn’t it? When we’re offered something, a gift, we’re skeptical.
“How much will it cost me? What do I have to do? What’s the catch? Is it worth anything if it is free? There’s no way it can be that simple.”
For centuries, people have struggled with this verse in the Bible. They’ve questioned it, tried to deny it, and added to it because they just couldn’t believe it was true.
But it is.
Romans 10:8-9
“The message is very close at hand; it is on your lips and in your heart. If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
Could it really be that simple? Is that what it really takes to be saved?
It may seem easy on our part, but it was anything but that for the One who offers us that gift.
Salvation is offered freely to all mankind. But it cost the Lord greatly.
God had a plan to redeem mankind to Himself. But it would take giving up a part of Him. Sin had entered the world. The innocent blood of the lamb had to be shed to atone for the sins committed. The sacrifice was still required. The sacrificial system and law could only do so much. There had to be something better, something greater, something pure. God sent His Son Jesus to leave His place in heaven and come to this earth to be the lamb. He was willing to give His life in order for us to be saved. He endured rejection and crucifixion in order to atone for the sins of all mankind. Salvation isn’t free. It cost the Lord His life.
And yet, He holds His arms stretched outward to you. He offers you this beautiful gift of salvation that He already paid for.
Do you dare ask how much it will cost? Do you insult Him by saying there must be a catch? Is it really worth anything if it’s free?
Christ died so we could be saved. Today, He offers us a beautiful gift, if only we will receive it.
If you’ve ever asked the question, “What must I do to be saved?”, this is your answer:
“If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
And that, my friend, is only the beginning. Once you accept that gift of salvation from God and acknowledge that Jesus Christ is your Lord, a new life begins. Let me show you what Jesus says about that. Learn what it means to live a life devoted to Christ. Go to follow.Lifeword.org.
