He Gives Us Peace
230 Views

My little buddy Maverick had come to say goodbye. Their family was moving back to Oklahoma after being here for just a few short years.

It was a pretty windy day with a chill in the air, so, he took my hand and we walked into the shop building. He took a deep breath and sighed, closing his eyes, and said, “I like it in here. It’s peace and quiet.”

Maverick is just 3 but about to be 4.

But this boy already knew he needed peace. I got tickled at him. At that time, his younger sister was about 13 months old and she’s on the move. She’s fearless and active and she’s not shy.

The moving process for them was fast and furious. They had been trying to get so much done in a short amount of time. They weren’t just moving their little family, but also their mom and dad. Lots to load, sell, plan, final appointments, and time was of the essence. As a woman in my 40’s, just thinking about it gets me overwhelmed. I can only imagine what it must have felt like to Maverick. But, in this little moment in the shop, that boy found a tiny bit of peace.

John 14:27
“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

Peace – rest, tranquility, security, safety

This is what Jesus offers.

We all have a desperate need for peace, don’t we? Even little Maverick felt the sweet relief of peace wash over him as we went to the shop.

You might be thinking, “but, I’ve seen lots of Christians that suffer for their faith or struggle in life, how can this be true?”

We might measure peace by the absence of trouble, trials, or hardships. But, the peace the Lord offers us is different than the world. It’s not the absence of those things, but the presence of God with us DURING those things.

Remember, when we study scripture, always look at the context. What did we study just before this? What did the verses talk about leading up to this? Or should I say, Who did they talk about?

The Holy Spirit.

This is how believers have peace even in the toughest times. When we’re scared, anxious, overwhelmed, angry, bitter, frustrated, doubtful and confused, we have help. We have someone that hears our cries for help, our need for direction and wisdom, and longing for peace and quiet. When we pray, the Holy Spirit gives us that peace that’s only available because of our Lord Jesus.

Do you need that peace? Are you searching for that deep sigh of relief? It’s only available through Jesus Christ.

Today, if you don’t know Him, if you’ve never prayed and confessed your sins and submitted your life to Him, I pray that you’ll do that. There is no special prayer you have to pray. I can’t give you the words to speak. Just share from your heart. Talk to Him. Ask for forgiveness and surrender your will for His. Ask Him to save you.

And then, the only way to get to know His will, is to study His Word. Spend time with Him in prayer, search His truth and seek out wise counsel.
