He’s Coming Soon

“I’m coming in this time as a warning. Get this place cleaned up. It’s a mess and has gotten way out of hand. The next time I come in here, I won’t be so nice.”

You ever hear those words from your mom or dad?

Fair warning.

But what was your reaction? That’s the key here. I’m sure some of you looked around and thought, they’re right. It looks awful. The reality set in and you could not only see the horrendous mess, but you could smell it too. You knew it was bad and even though you didn’t want to do the work, you knew it needed to be done.

Or were you one of those that looked around and shrugged your shoulders saying, “it looks fine to me” and went back to playing your Super Mario Bros. or talking on the phone to Deb?

You didn’t see anything wrong with how things were. It was your room, you could live how you wanted. You knew where stuff was and nobody else lived in there but you, so you could have it look any way you wanted.

Either way, they were coming back through that door. You didn’t know when, but you knew what was expected. What were you going to do?

Jesus had a message for the people. His time was coming to an end here on earth.

John 12:44-50
“Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me.
45 And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me.
46 I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.
47 And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.
49 For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.
50 And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.”

Jesus’ first mission here on earth was to be a light for people in a dark world. He was to make known the way to God, to redeem the people, to set the captives free. He came to show them love and forgiveness, an opportunity to be saved, to be changed, to have purpose.

But He warned the next time would not be so nice. When Jesus returns to the earth, He will come in judgment. All who have rejected Him will face the wrath of God that will be carried out by Jesus and His army.

The question is how will we react to His warning? Do we see ourselves as He does? Do we recognize the mess we are in because of our sin? Do we see Him as the One that can help and take His offer of forgiveness and cleansing? Or do we look around and say, “I’m not that bad. This is my life, my body, my choices. I can do what I want.”

Either way, judgment will be coming. If we accept His offer of salvation, He will cleanse us from all unrighteousness and we will be freed from the debt of sin. But if we don’t, if we remain just as we are, denying Him, we will face the judgment. Eternal punishment in Hell.

Today, you have a choice. I pray you choose Jesus. He loves you in an unconditional and ultimate way, far beyond comprehension.

He’s coming soon.
