“Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.”
The wheat seed must be buried and die to be fruitful. Have you ever thought about how death brings life? If that doesn’t occur and you just leave the seed in a bag or packet, nothing will happen. It will just wither away. The harvest only comes after it’s gone.
Jesus used this very example as He spoke to both the Jews and the Greeks in John 12.
Jesus was preparing. He knew the time had come. There would be a great harvest. But He knew that in order for that to happen, He, like the grain of wheat, would have to die and be buried. Then, new life would be raised up. He would conquer death, hell, and the grave so that man could live—not just on this earth but eternally in Heaven with the Father.
How amazing is it that Jesus would do that for us? He would sacrifice His life so that we could be saved from eternal death.
What does Christ’s death mean to you? Do you consider it just part of life? Do you regard it as a simple act of kindness? Or do you recognize it as the single most compassionate act of sacrifice from our God to send His only Son to die in our place?
Let me share one thing with you – it doesn’t matter what we think or what our opinion is. The only thing that matters is the truth found in God’s Word, the Bible. Jesus Christ died so that you could live. He offered Himself because He loves you that much.
What will you do with that gift?
Will you admit that you have sinned against a Holy God? Will you recognize your need for a Savior? Will you repent of that sin and accept His gift of salvation? Will you surrender your life to Him?
“25 He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. 26 If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.”
Trust Him. Put your faith in Him. Follow Jesus. I promise it’s worth it.
Your eternal life depends on it.
