Thirst

I closed my eyes and I imagined a glass full of coke. Ice bobbed on the top as the delicious, sweet liquid sloshed over the side. It wasn’t just full, it was FULL! The little carbonation bubbles fizzed and popped. And no matter how much I drank, in my mind, it was always so full it was spilling over.

This is what I imagine when I am overcome with thirst.

John tells us that Jesus was full of grace and truth. Not just full, but FULL.

John 1:16

“And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.”

Grace for grace – one blessing after another. Because of the fullness of Jesus’ grace, that’s what we receive when we accept Jesus as our Savior.

The alternative? This is what they experienced in the Old Testament. Verse 17 – “For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.”

With the law, that large glass would always be emptied when you broke the law. When a person sinned, they had broken the law, the very commandments God gave them. The only way to restore that relationship between them and God required a blood sacrifice. An innocent animal’s blood would be poured out to cover the sins of the guilty. Only then could that “glass” be filled to the top once again.

But this had to happen every time. Over and over their glass would be empty.

But when Christ came, He fulfilled the law. He filled that glass to the top, and so much that it spills over. His grace pours out blessings for ALL people. No more are the sacrifices needed. Jesus was the innocent lamb that was required to cover the sins of the guilty.

He poured out His blood to cover our sins.

Sins of the past, present and future.

And now, His grace is overflowing! And it’s available to all who will accept it.

Are you thirsty? Do you want to drink from the well that never runs dry? Do you need grace for grace, the overflowing of Jesus in your life?

Come.

Jesus is calling you today to experience a love like none other. A love overflowing with grace.
