Answer the Call

The day has come and a man, convicted of a serious crime, will face the death penalty. The executioner prepares the lethal injection and readies the room. The last meal is requested and eaten, the chaplain called for, yet the man remains silent.

He knows the jury found him guilty. He knows the judge banged his gavel and the sentence was set. Death by lethal injection. But what can be done about it now? He’s appealed the court’s ruling, but he’s run out of time. He knows death is certain.

He’s walked into the room, laid on the bed, and strapped in restraints. The process is set to begin.

The clock on the wall ticks. Second after second.

Tick, tick, tick.

Sweat drips off the man’s forehead as anxiety surges through him with thoughts of death.

The executioner steps forward, syringe in hand.

This is it.

The prisoner’s eyes close as he awaits that final moment.

Silence. Stillness.

And then a deafening shrill rings through the room. The phone.

Quickly, it’s answered. It’s from the governor. There’s been a stay granted. The man has been declared innocent! There will be no execution! This man has been saved from certain death!

Luke 19:10

“For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.”

Lost – dead, to perish, to be destroyed, to devote to eternity in Hell.

The lost are those that are without hope because in their sin, they’re guilty. And their guilt has earned them death.

Every lost person is on death row. And there is only one man that can save him – the Son of man – Jesus Christ.

That man on death row in that chair, was me. That man is you. We are all sinners destined for an eternity in Hell.

But God.

Rich in mercy! He sent His Son to declare us free! But it came with a price. That death sentence still has to be paid; the sin debt still had to be settled.

Christ gave His life for our sins.

We can be saved if we will only answer that call.

What if no one picked up the phone? What if you heard the call coming in but it went unanswered?

Death.

Answer the call today. If you have never prayed to Jesus Christ to save you, would you do that today? The scripture says that if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, you will be saved. Pour out your heart to Him. Confess your sins, turn from them and turn to Christ, committing yourself to living this new life He offers all to Him.

He has sought you ought. You are worth saving. He loves you! Will you accept His offer today?

Answer His call and live!
