Pray About It
317 Views

What’s something you always talk about? Or for some of us, I could say, what’s something we constantly complain about?

I read a little quote that said, “do you pray about it as much as you talk about it?”

Luke 18:1-8

“And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man: And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary. And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man; Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me. And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith. And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?”

Jesus shared this story with the disciples as an example of the Father’s desire to hear and answer their prayers. If an unjust judge, who is uncaring and not a believer, can answer a request, why wouldn’t God, who loves His children?

So, what does it look like to be persistent in prayer?

Some might think it means to constantly utter the same thing over and over. Or others might feel that you have to spend hours on your knees. However, the Lord is directing us to keep the communication open with Him always. As we live out each day, our minds should be focused on Him, believing He is in control of all things and that He hears our requests. We believe He will answer, not always in the way we think is best or as fast as we want, but in His will. We are to live by faith.

When I bring my request before God in prayer, I’m reminded of those who were before me who spent years praying to the Lord. And how the Lord answered them in His perfect way. And then I’m reminded of how He has answered my own prayers throughout the years – for a husband who cherishes me, to be a mom, for the healing of my father, for the salvation of friends and family, for a puppy to find the best home… the list goes on and on. In all things, the Lord has heard my cries and answered my prayers. Some are still waiting for answers, but while I wait, I pray, continuing to bring that to the Lord and trust that He will answer it, in His time.

Today, let’s pray about it as much as we talk about it. And trust that He will answer.
