Jesus More Than Anything
471 Views

“Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance and called out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!” When he saw them, he said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed. One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him—and he was a Samaritan.
Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner?” Then he said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well.”

Luke 17:11-19

Notice how the men call out to Jesus for mercy. They say, “Jesus, Master”. They not only call Him by name, but claim He is their Master, their Lord.

But what happens once they get what they came for?

They’re gone.

Except one.

One praised God.

One was grateful not just for the healing that had taken place, but for the healer Himself. His words “Jesus, Master” meant more than just lip service.

And to top it all off, he was a Samaritan. This was a people group of mixed race that came about when Jews married Gentiles. The Samaritans were hated by the Jews.

Yet, he was the only one to give God the praise He deserved.

The song “More than Anything” from Natalie Grant comes to mind this morning. The chorus echoes this passage.

“Help me want the Healer
More than the healing
Help me want the Savior
More than the saving
Help me want the Giver
More than the giving
Oh, help me want You, Jesus
More than anything.”

What about us? Have we come to Jesus, declaring He is Lord, yet turning from Him when we get what we came for? We’re we seeking salvation from Hell and an eternity in Heaven and that’s it? Did we recognize that Jesus is more than a miracle worker, but truly the Master of our lives?

Do our actions tell the same story as our words?

He is Jesus. Master. Lord. Savior. Redeemer. King.

I am His child. Humbled. Forgiven. Redeemed. Bought with a price. Servant.

Praise Him today for what He has done in your life. Not just in words, but in your actions as well. Let your life tell the story of forgiveness and thankfulness.
