My bluetooth wouldn’t connect from my phone to my car so l was stuck scanning the stations for something to listen to.
It stopped momentarily on a country station and I didn’t recognize the artist. I thought, ”how is this even country?” Pretty soon, the singer threw out two or three cuss words. This was definitely not the country music we grew up with. Thankfully, the scan began again to a new station.
This time, it landed on a station playing a news segment. It was mainly about holiday sales and travel, nothing of major importance, and then the radio scanned to the next station.
I heard a familiar voice. So I hit the button to stop the scan and listened to him. I trust in this man because I know what he teaches to be true. When he shares something from scripture, I know I can go and see that same thing for myself in the Bible. He doesn’t take it out of context, but reads and teaches for what the Word says. I know I can listen to him for truth, wisdom, and gain a deeper understanding of God’s Word.
Luke 9:35
“And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him.”
Jesus is standing with Peter, James and John, and is transfigured in front of them. They are able to see Jesus in all of His glory for a brief moment. Moses and Elijah join Jesus and speak with Him. These three disciples watch in amazement. Peter offers the only thing he can think of but God speaks.
He says, “this is my Son. Listen to Him”.
God is pointing out to them that Jesus has all authority and power. He has been sent by God Himself and should be heard and followed.
There are thousands of voices speaking at you every day. All are trying to get your attention in one way or another. How can you know who you should listen to? All of these voices can be loud, even our own, drowning out the one voice we should be listening for – Jesus.
As you go throughout your day today, think about who you are listening to. Listen for His voice above all others.
He speaks peace in the midst of chaos.
He speaks love in the midst of hate.
He speaks forgiveness in the midst of fighting.
He speaks truth in the midst of confusion.
He speaks hope in the midst of desperation.
Do you hear Him?
Open your Bible. This is where you will find Jesus speaking to you today. Hear His voice.
