God is With Us

There we were. Little teenagers, joyriding in a golf cart. We zoomed around the yard with 4 of us squeezed into that little thing. We were having the time of our life! And then, things took a turn for the worse.

We crested the hill and started the descent, but it was too heavy on one side and the cart tipped. I jumped out, but there were still others stuck inside.

How quickly things can change. One minute you’re having fun, enjoying life, and the next minute, you’re fighting battles and facing unthinkable situations.

Luke 8:40

“And it came to pass, that, when Jesus was returned, the people gladly received him: for they were all waiting for him.”

I love this scripture. THIS is the way Jesus should be received! He is the long awaited Messiah; He should be praised, celebrated and joyfully accepted.

But, if you’ve been reading with me or know anything about Jesus, you know this is not the norm for His life.

Remember His birth? There were people celebrating with Mary and Joseph, yet there was a king who wanted Jesus dead. They were forced to flee to Egypt to hide to save His life.

And just yesterday, we read of Jesus healing a man who had been possessed by demons. The man praised Him, but the people in the Decapolis were afraid and ran Him out of town.

We also know the story of what’s ahead. People will praise Him with palm branches and hail Him as their King and then turn on Him, shouting for Him to be crucified.

If we think our life is a roller coaster, it’s nothing in comparison to the life of Jesus. One minute all seems well, but then, things quickly turn bad.

This is a sinful world. Pain, heartache, sickness and death are all things we will experience here on this earth. But that’s exactly why Jesus came. God knew all that would happen and yet He still chose to come in the flesh.

Not only did Jesus experience the hills and valleys, but He promises to be with us as we travel this earth. Whether we are on the mountain top of victory or feeling defeat in the valley, God is with us.

Emmanuel.
