Working for UAMS, one of the things we were most proud of was being a world-renowned research and treatment facility for multiple myeloma. I met the research director once and he shared his story of coming all the way from England to do research in Arkansas. He wanted to be in the best place possible to help those in need. And he knew people would come here from around the world because they had faith that this place held the power to provide answers and healing.
“And it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, which were come out of every town of Galilee, and Judaea, and Jerusalem: and the power of the Lord was present to heal them.”
Luke 5:17
The POWER of the LORD was PRESENT to HEAL them.
This wasn’t some snake oil demonstration or some ill attempt at putting a bandaid over an open wound. People were coming from all over to see just what was taking place. They had heard the stories and the reports of others being healed and they went to see it for themselves. But this verse in scripture gives us a clear picture of who, what, where and why.
The POWER of the LORD was PRESENT to HEAL them.
Who was there? The Lord!
Where was He? Right there! He was present. He was with them.
What was happening? The power of GOD was in this place.
Why was it there? Why were people flocking to it? To be healed.
God always has a purpose and plan. And He has the power to do it on His time. He isn’t some distant God without a care or too busy. He is present.
I love this passage because I can see the doubt, the skepticism in the minds of the Pharisees. They were the religious ones. They should have the power to do these things. Why this man named Jesus? Why not them?
Some would see and believe. Others would turn away with a hardened heart.
What will you do?
The power of the Lord is present to heal. To heal your brokenness from sin. To heal the gaping wounds that feel as if they will overtake you. To heal your pride, your fear, your pain. The power of the Lord is present to heal.
But will you come? Will you see and believe? Will you have faith in Jesus that His sacrifice has paid your debt in full? Or will you turn away with a hardened heart?
The POWER of the LORD is PRESENT to HEAL you. Won’t you come?
