“I will put my trust in Him.”

Hebrews 2:13 (ASV)

Blessings. We all want them. But sadly, we often times resemble (rewind a few decades) the drink vending machine that initially drops the cup only to be filled with the dark, strong, java flavor you selected, or the icy cold soda of your choosing. That cup placement (for filling) was crucial to the finished goal of leaving the source and then blessing the thirsty participant. What’s our source for filling…physically, mentally, and spiritually? Do we choose the posture of filling? God always blesses us to be a “poured out” blessing to others, not to be a stagnant cul-de-sac of accumulating.

Humans, like disposable cups, are divinely positioned (through salvation, discipleship, and prayer) to bring a sense of usefulness to the Kingdom’s agenda. Our potential usefulness with His impact is a direct result of our chosen sources, positioning, and filling.

Sources matter. Look around you, kinda scary, huh? Pioneers knew the importance of “hitchin’ their wagons” to a trusted and skilled source of power. Somewhere along the dusty trail, many of us have lost our way and accepted counterfeit, second-hand sources as our GPS. Once our cup is tainted with the sinfulness of pride, propaganda, and prejudice…it’s certainly not worthy of consuming or recommending to others.

I’ve heard it said that faith is measured in footsteps. Dr. Tony Evans says, “A kingdom orientation must accompany and inform all that you do.” (Pathways) Any other source is a miss for our earthly mission. It is in those moments when our half-filled cups resemble the half-filled lifeboats coming from the Titanic…how tragic, how preventable, and how selfish! Providence can’t be explained by connecting the dots we observe to finish the image. No, God’s filling resembles one of a beautiful kaleidoscope. (I know, showing my age again! They carry them in antique stores now!) The broken glass pieces are turned by the divine Source’s hands to bring a masterpiece into view. It is then that one image is multiplied into quadruple images that fit seamlessly into a stained glass original.

Alignment is huge; not just for a vending machine and kaleidoscope, but for children of His. Don’t fret with the world’s tilt these days. Make the best choice to gently and prayerfully yield to His placement, His power source, and His sovereignty.
