Recently, Hunter and Shaun treated me to a Mother’s Day getaway. It was a surprise to say the least because in our family, I’m the planner. So, honestly, I was a little skeptical when they first told me. I would ask questions and Shaun would just say, “It’s all been taken care of”.
All the details, everything I would normally worry about, all of it was already worked out.
We had a cave tour scheduled on the same day as reservations to a restaurant. So, naturally, I was thinking about logistics.
What time do we need to be done at the cave tour and museum?
How long will it take us to get ready?
How will we get from our cottage to the restaurant?
Do we drive?
Where do we park?
Shaun said, “It’s all been taken care of”. And we hopped on a shuttle and headed to Top of the Rock.
“And now when the even was come, because it was the preparation, that is, the day before the sabbath, Joseph of Arimathaea, an honourable counsellor, which also waited for the kingdom of God, came, and went in boldly unto Pilate, and craved the body of Jesus. And Pilate marvelled if he were already dead: and calling unto him the centurion, he asked him whether he had been any while dead. And when he knew it of the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph. And he bought fine linen, and took him down, and wrapped him in the linen, and laid him in a sepulchre which was hewn out of a rock, and rolled a stone unto the door of the sepulchre. And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses beheld where he was laid.” (Mark 15:42-47)
I love this passage of scripture because it makes me realize perhaps I am more like my Heavenly Father than I thought. God cares about the details. He has everything already worked out.
Look at the first verse here. The time is important. It says “And now when the even was come, because it was the preparation, that is, the day before the sabbath”. The timing of Jesus’ death was exactly as God had intended. Should it have been just a few hours later, Joseph would have been honoring the Sabbath and Jesus’ body would have been left there on the cross. More than likely, the Roman guards would have been ordered to take His body down and discard of Him. There would have been no confirmation of His death or resurrection.
But God had already worked out the details.
Jesus died before the Sabbath, which meant Joseph had plenty of time to ask for the body, buy the fine linen, wrap Jesus’ body and seal the tomb.
God had it all taken care of. He is a God of order and detail. He is in control.
Today, the world seems like it’s in the worst shape ever. Wars, famine, drought, plagues… all of it affecting people across the globe. And here in the US, it seems like our leaders have lost their minds as they can’t define what a woman is, they turn a blind eye to the economy and make one dumb decision after another.
But, God is in control. He knows what has happened, what’s happening now, and what will happen. He isn’t surprised, caught off guard or even shocked by any of this. He already has it all worked out, because, He is a God of order and detail.
Could blessings come from the heartache and suffering? Could there be people who turn their lives to the Lord because of their circumstances? Could His name be glorified even in sickness and pain?
Yes.
His ways are not our ways.
He is higher and far greater than we could ever imagine. But we know that He’s got it taken care of.
“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” (John 14:27)
