Invest in Eternal Blooms
7806 Views

I love Spring! The birds are chirping, the sunshine peeks through my window, and the flowers are blooming! I always get excited about getting my flowerbeds ready. However, there is one thing I just don’t like.

I can’t stand the fact that some flowers only last for this one year. I hate spending money on a bunch of annuals that will fade and die. Then I have to turn around and do the same thing, year after year. I would much rather plant perennials! The annuals can be so pretty and add lots of color, but they are only temporary. They will not last. It seems like such a loss to invest in something like that.

As we dive into Chapter 13 of Mark, Jesus is telling His disciples of what is to come in the future. What He says is not necessarily in the chronological order that things will happen. Many people have tried to nail down the exact time that Jesus will return. But throughout all of His talk of coming events – wars, earthquakes, famines, persecution, and false prophets- Jesus never gives a specific date. The only indication that He gives of a time of when He will return is when you see Him coming in the clouds.

“And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory. And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven.” (Mark 13:26-27)

This is speaking of the end of the earth. This is after the tribulation when Jesus will return. He has already called away or raptured those that have put their faith in Him, but those that were not saved, they will remain. They will see Him coming with His army and full of great power to destroy the earth.

“Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.” (Mark 13:31)

All will be gone. Nothing on this earth, not even the earth will remain. Think about how much you invest in here on this earth. What we spend our time, effort, money, and heart on. All things that are of this world will be gone. The only thing that will remain will be the Lord and His kingdom. What are we investing into that? Shouldn’t God’s kingdom in Heaven be the focus of our efforts? All these things may seem nice now, but like the annuals, they are only temporary. They will be gone.

I want to invest into something that lasts, don’t you? Plant seeds of salvation for eternal blooms.
