“Jesus answered her, ‘If I knew (about) God’s gift (of eternal life), and who it is who says, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him (instead), and he would have given you living water (eternal life).'” – John 4:10 (Amplified)
Humans crave “connections”. It was reported in July 2022 that six new Facebook profiles appear each second. (*Keep in mind that if it’s a statistic today, it’s probably old news by tomorrow.) Every sixty seconds it has been reported that 510,000 comments are posted which do not include status updates or photos. Yes, if we aren’t careful, we think we can shape our impressions and identities much like the woman at the well. She wanted to shape her projections to others and we often do the same. Isn’t it just like Jesus to not simply hit the “Like” button or the “Thumbs Up” icon and move on to the next mirage we conjure up? He loves us too much to simply settle as just another screen time “friend”. As the scripture captures, a true encounter with Christ quickly transforms our earthly purpose. The posture of our heart becomes a priority with the backdrop of eternity. We pray more than we post, and we live more than we scroll. Thankfully, the supernatural “connection” at the well went viral. Have you laid down your device long enough for a fresh encounter with the God of the Universe lately? Do your kids see you seeking The Word for guidance more than asking for validation on social media? OUCH!
When Jesus stole her attention and redefined her future, she chose to put aside her tainted profile and give all that she was to Him. We would be better served to do the same. God knows where your routines lead you and how ready you are to hear. Look for a time this week when Jesus interrupts your watering pot schedule to give you a glimpse into who he is and how his profile is really the only “friend” that matters!
