Your Action Story
13168 Views

When choosing a movie, what genre is your go-to? Is it a drama? Or perhaps a rom-com? Horror? Animation? Sci-fi?

For my husband, it’s action. While I would rather watch a cartoon, he wants something with intensity, lots of stuff happening, and, of course, a good battle scene is always a plus.

This morning, we open our bibles to the book of Mark, and that’s exactly what we are going to get – action.

Mark is a unique book because its main focus is on what Christ did, skipping over His birth and jumping straight to His baptism by John the Baptist.

Why?

Let’s look at who this book was written to and what its purpose was.

John Mark, the author of this book, was not one of the 12 disciples. He did, however, travel with Paul on his first missionary journey. John Mark wrote this book to the Christians in Rome to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that Jesus was the Messiah. How would he do that? By focusing on the acts of Jesus, His miracles.

And of course, that got me to thinking…if someone were to write a book about you, claiming that you were a Christian, would they have enough proof? Could your story be an action story, too?

We know that what you do, your works, doesn’t save you, but instead, it is a direct result of salvation. Ephesians 2:8-9 says that we are saved by grace through faith. And your salvation makes you want to DO something!

– tell people about what Jesus has done in your life
– serve in His local church
– teach and make disciples
– love others like Jesus did

These are all actions.

So, I ask you again this morning, if someone were to write a book about you, claiming that you were a Christian, would they have enough proof? Could your story be an action story, too?

Right now, I pray that the Lord would ignite that fire that’s inside you to put Him first and to give you a deep desire to serve Him. I promise, you’ll receive no greater joy in this life than that of serving the Lord Jesus Christ!
