I try to imagine what it was like. I wonder, what did he see first? Was he so overwhelmed by the beauty and intensity of it that he couldn’t stand? Or was he jumping for joy, running on the street? And the very moment he saw Him, what did he do?
It was on this day 11 years ago, my father passed from this life to the next. It was the day he met Jesus face to face.
I can’t fathom the emotions that would have run through him in that moment. But I know Jesus was there to greet Him joyfully and with arms wide open!
“And they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word. And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him.” (Matthew 28:8-9)
All hail. This was used as a joyful greeting or salutation. These two words were welcoming to the women. It showed Jesus recognized and knew them and welcomed them with open arms.
But as the women came to Him, they were overtaken by their emotions, humbled to their knees, and they took hold of His feet and worshipped Him.
I can just hear them now…
“All hail king JESUS, all hail Emmanuel. Prince of Peace, Lord of Lords, bright morning star! And throughout eternity, I’ll sing Your praises!
And I’ll reign with You throughout eternity!”
What if you met Jesus today? Would He welcome you with open arms because He knew you while you were here on this earth? Would He greet you joyfully because you were dear friends? Would He open His arms to fold around you because you were His child?
He would if you have accepted His love in this life. Have you confessed your sins to the Lord and asked for His forgiveness? Have you been saved? Have you made Him Lord over your life?
If not, you’ll be separated from the love and shining light of Jesus for eternity.
I want to hear “All Hail!” as I step into Heaven, don’t you?
